8 Days/7 Nights CAMBODIA DISCOVERY (CB12)
Day 1 [Phnom Penh Arrival]
Meet guide upon the arrival at Phnom Penh international airport transfer to the hotel for checking in and afternoon start a tour to: National Museum , also called the (Musee des Beaux-Art). A French archeologist and painter, Georges Groslier, designed the khmer style building in 1917. It contains a large collection of Arts notably sculptures representing in each period of khmer history.
Royal palace, Built by French in 1866 on the site of the 15th centuries Palace and silver pagoda also named because of the floor which is made up of 5329 silver tiles. With 90 kg of gold Buddha and 2086 diamonds. Wat Phnom was built by Madam Penh in 1372 when she found a Buddha inside a Koki tree on the site. It is still an important historical side with great religious significance for Cambodians today. Wat Ounalom and victory monument.
Day 2 [Phnom Penh] (B)
Breakfast at hotel; visit the Toul Sleng Museum (S-21 prison). This former school was used as a prison by Pol Pot's security forces. It became the largest center of detention and torture during the brutal rule of the Khmer Rouge and the Killing Fields (15km south of phnom penh) Between 1975 and late 1978 around 17,000 men, women, children, infants (including nine westerners) were detained and tortured at the S-21 prison and transport to the extermination camp of Choeng Ek.
They were often bludgeoned to death to avoid wasting precious bullets. Fragment of human bone and bits of cloth are scattered around disinterred pits. There are over 8000 skulls arranged by sex and age which are visible behind the clear glass panels of the memorial stupa, which was erected in 1988. Afterwards go shopping at Central or Russian Market.
In late afternoon take a sunset cruise by local boat along the Mekong. Overnight in Phnom Penh.
Day 3 [Phnom Penh - Takeo - Phnom Penh] (B)
Depart from Phnom Penh for Tonle Bati and visit Ta Prohm temple (12-13C) and Yeay Peau temple (12thC). Visit the Prasat Neang Khmao, the temple of the Black Virgin (10thC) continue to Phnom Chiso, 11 century temple. Visit a silk weaving village before proceeding to Takeo.
Taking the boat from Takeo to Phnom Da (please note that the speedboat does not have a cover or any shade hat and sun tan cream essential) Visit Phnom Da temple; the climb up is easy as this particular Phnom, or hill, is not very high, but it is a bit steep and includes some big rocks. Visit Asram Maharoseil (6thC), an Indian-style sandstone temple constructed in a style unlike any other temple in Cambodia . Return to Phnom Penh. Overnight in Phnom Penh .
Day 4 [Phnom Penh - Kompong Cham - Kompong Thom] (B)
Breakfast at hotel. Kompong Cham overland. View French colonial buildings and visit Wat Norkor. Continue to Kompong Thom. Visit Kohear Nokor (11th century) and Phnom Suntonk. Arrive in Kompong Thom; accommodation in Kampong Thom.
Day 5 [Kompong Thom - Siem Reap] (B)
Breakfast at hotel. Visit Sombo Prei Kuk, located 35km northeast of Kompong Thom town, the ancient capital of Chenla, with its more than 100 temples dating from pre-Angkor period. Afterwards travel overland to Siem Reap. Overnight in Siem reap.
Day 6 [Siem Reap] (B)
Breakfast at hotel and visit the ancient capital of Angkor Thom (12th century), the South Gate (with its huge statues depicting of the ocean of milk), Bayon Temple, the Royal Enclosure, Phimeanakas, Elephant Terrace and the terrace of the leper King.
In the afternoon visit the most famous of all the temples, Angkor Wat. The temple complex covers 81 hectares with five towers and was built in the 12th century. It is the largest religious monument in the world. It symbolizes the five peaks of Meru's mountains; the enclosed wall represents the mountain at the edge of the world and the surrounding moat symbolizes the ocean beyond.
See the sunset from Phnom Bakhen, one of two hills dominating the plain of Angkor, from where you can view the western Baray. Overnight in Siem Reap.
Day 7 [Siem Reap] (B)
Breakfast at hotel. Visit Banteay Srei temple (10th century), regarded as the jewel in the crown of classical Khmer art. Then continue your visit to Banteay somre, built in the third quarter of the 12th century. It consists of a central temple with four wings proceeded by a hall and accompanied by a two libraries, the southernmost of which is remarkably well preserved. Two concentric walls enclose the ensemble.
In the afternoon visit the floating village of Chong Khneas, located 10 km south of Siem Reap. Visit the village and take a traditional wooden boat for a ride on the Tonle Sap, the great lake of Cambodia and the largest in Asia. Overnight in Siem Reap.
Day 8 [Siem Reap - Departure] (B)
Breakfast at hotel. Free time until transfer to the airport.
